Members Cldplytkmn Posted December 11, 2005 Members Posted December 11, 2005 the only worthwhile advice you're likely to get in this thread is 1) the search function is there for a reason. and 2) nobody knows what you'll like, so go play em. If you can't find those guitars locally, buy something you can find, unless you know what you like and don't like. i'm not a smart-ass, i'm just right... and i'm trying to save you some time. people ignore these threads for a reason.

Members SlowFingers Posted December 12, 2005 Members Posted December 12, 2005 Ya know, this thread and some of the replies reminds me of an idea. What we really need is a sticky thread at the top of the page here where the top 5 recommended guitar in set price ranges are given. Of course, it will be done with the caveat that a guitar is a personal choice, and everyone should try before you buy, etc. But, if we had a list of recommended for guitars under $200, under $500, under $1000, under $1500, etc., then it could save some of these. Now, I would hope this would not turn into a case where everyone is just referred to that thread when they had a legit question regarding a choice they are trying to make, but the general "What guitar should I buy" without any other information could be averted. Now, to answer the question, I love my Seagull M6 Gloss Spruce. http://cgi.ebay.com/Handmade-Seagull-M6-Acoustic-Spruce-Top-Guitar_W0QQitemZ7374510204QQcategoryZ2385QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

I would assume the only worthwhile replies I got were grom people who had tried the guitars mentioned. It's not just a personal preference, some guitars are renowned for their {censored}tiness, and when you don't know which ones they are, you ask people who know (ie. you lot). If the general concensus is that these three are all decent guitars, of the same craftsmanship to each other THEN its personal preference. People may ignore these threads, but then there are those that may offer some inshight having knowledge of these particular models, and then there are those like yourself who deliberately post to them just to make the person asking the question look silly without contributing anything worthwhile.

I don't think he meant to dis you, he's a good guy with good intentions. It's just that there are so many of these kinds of threads. Slowfinger's idea is probly just what we need. A sticky that answeres all of these questions.
Members leftync Posted December 12, 2005 Members Posted December 12, 2005 ditto on the seagull. some don't like the look--particularly the headstock. it has its purpose. no one questions the build quality or sound. but there are a lot of nice guitars our there, at almost any price. you may like a takamine or alvarez more. have fun and follow your gut.

I can almost guarantee you there aren't many, if any, here that have played all three, or even two of those. You're going to get suggestions about other guitars. Not comparisons.

Which one is the better guitar - or are there any others recommended...? I think the EJ-200 is a copy of the "real thing" Gibson J-200. I've heard it is not the same guitar at all! I 've never tried it or the EL-00. About the Art and Lutherie Folk, I'm not sure that it has a solid top! Art and Lutherie are made by Godin, in Quebec, Canada. Same thing for Seagull, Simon and Patrick, Norman, La Patrie. I own a Norman B20-Folk (solid spruce top) and a Seagull S6 Folk (solid cedar top)! I like them both! They're different! They sound different, they have a different neck! I would chose a solid top over a laminated top if I were you because the wood will open and the sound will get even better with age! Godin products are very good products for the money, try as many as possible and look for comfort, particularily the shape and the size of the neck and of the body. http://www.godinguitars.com It's true, you should be able to find lots of informations using the "search" fonction! We really need a sticky for that kind of thread!

I was not sure! I thought maybe that it could depend on the year of built because, on their website, the Art & Lutherie Folk shown has a laminated top!
