Members JasmineTea Posted December 12, 2005 Members Posted December 12, 2005 I did it, it worked. Put a set of strings on (ph/br) played them for a couple weeks till they got kind of cruddy. Stopped at the hardware store and bought some 3-in-1 house hold oil, wiped it on the old strings, played them for an hour or so. They came back to life. No {censored}. They sound bright but not "new" bright. The unwound strings did'nt make a complete comback, but I think if I put the oil on when they're new, touch them up now and again, they'll last a good long time. I'll try WD-40 next. Have heard rumors it works real good.
Members Cldplytkmn Posted December 12, 2005 Members Posted December 12, 2005 i wouldn't worry much about the 3-in-1... i've used that on alot of stuff with no problems... i think WD-40 has some solvents in it that you might not want to get on your finish. If you have a taylor sitting around, however, you should try it out on that first, then nothing is lost.

Fortunately..or unfortunately, I don't have a Taylor. A cabinet maker I know suggested WD-40. Mabey he's nuts?
Members Cldplytkmn Posted December 12, 2005 Members Posted December 12, 2005 i'm not sure really... i just know from using it, it SEEMS like it has something other than oil... i'm assuming a cabinet maker would know what he's talking about with wood though.

Members studyscoot Posted December 14, 2005 Members Posted December 14, 2005 what happened to the whole "I get enjoyment out of the different stages strings go through" bit? Why not just switch out the strings?
