Members paintbyeyes Posted December 17, 2005 Members Posted December 17, 2005 Hello there, I am looking into the Go-guitar built by Sam Radding. I'm pretty sure that I will get a grande sized one and change the fretboard from rosewood to Ebony. But, I still can't decide what kind of back and side wood that I should go for. I play both figer-style and flat-picking. I am currently thinking of either walnut(default), koa or rosewood. I know that there are distinct tone differences between these three, but it's just hard to decide when there are optoins (human's nature evil..haha). I was a little bit more leaning toward koa for its sweet sound and pleasant wood figure. But I heard that koa's sound is more variable and unpredictable between batches of wood. So, I would like to know your opinions. If you have any kind of experience with other good tonewoods for the go-guitar, I will also appreciate if you can share your experience with me. Thanks guys!

As for back and side tonewoods on a tiny guitar: Some argue the back and side wood differences are not all that significant on full size guitars. I think they are. But with a realy small guitar like the Go guitar, I doubt it'll make a big difference from one tonewood to another. Then again, although it's not a mandolin, mabey some mandolin players would have an opinion about it.

I kinda agree with you that the difference between tonewoods might not be that noticable for this tiny guitar. thanks for the link, JT!
