Members texas twelve Posted December 22, 2005 Members Posted December 22, 2005 I have a Guild 12 string that has a super sound but is a bit stiff. Used to that wasn't a problem, but as I have gotten older I want to lower it a bit. Using a capo will help me out. I found an old capo that I had that was nearly a fossil, put it on, and it didn't have the tension to do the job. Looked around online and reviews are inconsistent. Help me, guys, which capo do you use on your 12 string? Any help would be appreciated.
Members Fstpicker Posted December 22, 2005 Members Posted December 22, 2005 A Shubb dedicated 12-string capo would be a really good choice IMO. I used to own one until I sold my Takamine 12-string, and it worked great. Another option....another great one as well as my personal favorite....would be the brand new Planet Waves NS capo . Here is a picture of it: Here is a good description of it: The NS Capo is the product of an ongoing collaboration between famed product designer Ned Steinberger and J. D
Members daklander Posted December 22, 2005 Members Posted December 22, 2005 Shubb and Kyser both make good capos. The Kyser is probably quicker to move. There is also a new style capo that looks interesting if it's wide enough for a 12 string. I use the Kyser and still have the wrap around style around somewhere.
Members zookie Posted December 22, 2005 Members Posted December 22, 2005 I use a Kyser. They have a model specifically for 12 strings.
Members bjorn-fjord Posted December 22, 2005 Members Posted December 22, 2005 I like the Shubb because it operates on a cam system and doesn't depend on the tension of a spring. And it's small and unobtrusive.
Members texas twelve Posted December 24, 2005 Author Members Posted December 24, 2005 Thanks all, I got a Kyser.
Members rh2d Posted December 25, 2005 Members Posted December 25, 2005 I have a Dunlop, a Shubb, a Kyser, a G7 and a wrap around. (I play a lot of guitars) I like the Shubb the best and next is the Dunlop. The Kyser is OK but will pull your strings sharp if you are not careful. For this reason I just quit using it. I just have not gotten used to the G7 but it is easy to use and probaly is the capo of the future. Most capos can be used for 6 or 12 strings but check before you buy.
Members Tony Burns Posted December 25, 2005 Members Posted December 25, 2005 Dunlop - I have one on my old Yamaha 12 string ( have tuned it down since it was new and capoed it - plus they have been making them for over 35 years ) The corded strap has never left a mark on the neck - and it stays on the guitar- plus its small enough not to be obtrusive - those metal capos scare me because there bigger and i feel there great if your changing it back and forth , but for keeping it on all the time - Dunlop might be your best bet !
