Members bluewolf Posted December 24, 2005 Members Posted December 24, 2005 I played one yesterday and it sounded great and so easy to play. I tested it up against martins, Taylors, Gibsons, seagulls, Normans, Art and Lutherie, and Guilds. All price ranges, dreadnaughts and om's I spent about 4 hrs in this shop and I liked the Tak more than anything. I didnt expect that. I had never really gone for Taks. Its 1400 bucks reg price is 1900 and of course comes with a case. Anybody have one or play one??How do you like it?? I just may go back there and buy it. Oh yes, I have been to other shops and have played epi masterbuilts, breedloves, tacomas, Larrivee's and Yamahas. Still like the tak.
Members guit30 Posted December 24, 2005 Members Posted December 24, 2005 It is a beauty, probably American madeJim
Members Harmonycat Posted December 24, 2005 Members Posted December 24, 2005 I always thought Taks were....adequate......sort of just OK.....and some that just did not sound good at all. Until......I ran into an old friend about 8 years back, who bought one that was an acoustic-electric. It was originally built for Rick Emmett and for whatever set of circumstances, he never accepted or received it. This is one of the most amazing guitars that I have ever heard at any price. Sounded like a Chorus of Angels in Harmony. Just Spellbinding to listen to. I have heard it played at several Jam Sessions, including a few where other guys had other expensive Taks, as well as some very nice Martins, and Gibsons. This guitar stood out tonally everywhere. It was very easy to pick it out of three or four acoustics playing. If there is one like that, there must be others. You don't have to convince me that phenomenal specimens exist.....I played bass with the guy for five years.
Members guit30 Posted December 24, 2005 Members Posted December 24, 2005 Takemine makes lots of custom shop beauties for artists, but none that are like the eg series, that's a different ballpark. I ordered a tak g501S OM because it was a beauty, it had a real tinny toneJim
Members takartin Posted December 25, 2005 Members Posted December 25, 2005 i think takamines are great, but as i understand it, takamines built in japan to be sold domestically (in japan) are superior to the ones over here...i could be wrong, but ive played a lot of takamines on both sides of the pacific, and i would have to think so. (i own a MIJ/sold in japan takamine and i love the thing to death.) takamine has factories in places like china or korea too, and those are just inferior instruments; and also much more common in the US of A. (which could easily be why i think the ones in Japan are generally better.) think of it a little like breedlove - the guitars made in oregon are amazing, but the ones crafted in korea, well, they're fine and all, but i'd imagine there's lots of guitars one would want more. as for the limited editions, i'd assume those are made in the Japanese factory (factories???), and while i haven't played the 2005, they get my approval. (ha, whatever THAT's worth.) but... my tak is a PT-108K - and yeah its my guitar so of course i'll like it more, but - its both cheaper and i think sounds better than the limited editions from previous years. the limited editions are more expensive simply because they're limited - so unless there's something specific about this years model you want, i'd probably keep looking. but...still, those things are pretty sweet and i do have to admit a certain amount of envy for people who own them
Members bluewolf Posted December 25, 2005 Author Members Posted December 25, 2005 Yeah, its made in japan and probably a part of the reason it sounds so good and playes so easy. What i like about his om is that you can strum it fairly hard and it still keeps open sound and not compressed.
