Members o_u_t_sider_1 Posted December 27, 2005 Members Posted December 27, 2005 Hello! Someone traded this thing in at a local guitar shop. It's an older classical Cordoba. I guess that it's at least 15 years old since the WEST Germany ceased to exist around 1990. Looks like the top is a solid spruce. Back and sides look like laminate, probably sycamore(maybe maple, but it doesn't seem to be mahogany and it's definitly not rosewood ). I'm quite ignorant on the subject, but judging by the shape(kind of thin), material, strings(high tension black nylons), type of sound/projection and many pick marks on the front I suspect that it could be a flamenco guitar after all. They want $140 for it. I played it for about an hour and can't quite figure out if it worth to buy. I probably ask too much from it by comparing the sound with a Takamine classical that's about 5 times its price. It has a strong projection, it's loud and the sound is fairly deep but it's not as delicate and precise as a Takamine. I spent the evening searching for anything related German made Cordoba or older Cordoba models. But the search was fruitless. I would really appreciate it if anybody from here has any input on this. Thanks!
Members KATMAN Posted December 27, 2005 Members Posted December 27, 2005 If the guitar has a good sound like you say,$140 is not that bad of a price IMHO. With proper classical strings put on it,you could have a nice guitar on your hands. Cordoba has some nice guitars from what I read in reviews. You can't go wrong here for $140,at least that is what I think. And Welcome to HC!
