Members ericd555 Posted December 25, 2005 Members Posted December 25, 2005 I just bought a Yamaha acoustic (fg-403s) and the action seems set really high. Just wondering how to go about lowering it. Is there much involved? This is my first guitar so I'm a little new to it. Thanks!
Members riffmeister Posted December 26, 2005 Members Posted December 26, 2005 there are three components to consider: 1. truss rod adjustment...loosen to get more forward bow in the neck (raises action), tighten to get more backbow in the neck (lowers action) 2. nut...the part up on the headstock...shim to raise, sand (bottom) to lower 3. saddle...the part down on the bridge...shim to raise, sand (bottom) to lower
Members go-kitesurf Posted December 27, 2005 Members Posted December 27, 2005 How do you shim the nut? Isn't it glued on the neck? I'm wondering if this is something I can do at home, I am handy, have built custom homes and have plenty of experience with fine detail, but would like to know what tools, adhesives, etc to use before attempting. TIA Also, any idea what software opens up *.tab files? Tabledit says I need 2.65 and as far as I can tell, v2.64 is the newest version.
Members Dave W. Posted December 27, 2005 Members Posted December 27, 2005 Go here: http://www.frets.com/FRETSPages/pagelist.html#Musician and scroll down to instrument setup. A good setup is a combination of several adjustments, and figuring out which ones to make. When in doubt, take it to a good guitar tech or luthier.
