Members uitar9 Posted December 5, 2005 Members Posted December 5, 2005 What are some of the more economical but decent after market pick ups available for acoustics. A guy I played with had a pick up system that he fitted into the soundhole. I thought it was a dimarzio Thanks
Members kwakatak Posted December 5, 2005 Members Posted December 5, 2005 Look at K&K Sound for starters. http://www.kksound.com/ I don't have any personal experience with them, but they'd be the first pups I'd look at.
Members Cldplytkmn Posted December 5, 2005 Members Posted December 5, 2005 i have a K&K and really like it. if you want something non-permanant i keep hearing good things about the LR Baggs M1. Its a soundhole pickup.
Members Cldplytkmn Posted December 5, 2005 Members Posted December 5, 2005 i like your sig quote, but is it quoted correctly? i've always heard "The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result" i've always wondered if it was correct
Members daklander Posted December 6, 2005 Members Posted December 6, 2005 For a removable soundhole pickup the old standby Dean Markley Pro-Mag is a pretty decent sounding pickup and you can probably pick one up for under $40.00. I don't like that type because the cord is always in the way, even taped to the soundboard. but they are a cheap way to get amplified. I bought one somewhere around 30 years ago and it's still working just fine when I need to amplify the one 6 string acoustic I don't have a pickup in, or if some joint I'm playing that purports having their own sound system but it won't handle the guitar I happen to take that has the Markely Sweet Spot in and I have to use the slip-in Pro-Mag in it's place.

Members jim0115 Posted December 26, 2005 Members Posted December 26, 2005 Here is a great site with sound samples for comparing the various pickups. After listening to these, I'm leaning towards the Pickup The World #27 pickup. I adheres to the underside of your bridge, so the only mod required to your guitar is routing out the end pin a bit to enlarge it to accomodate the input plug.http://www.dougyoungguitar.com/pickuptest.htm
Members someotherguy Posted December 26, 2005 Members Posted December 26, 2005 Most soundhole p/u are magnetic types, right? Can you get good acoustic sound out of those compared to built in piezo or external mic?
