Members Zakko Posted January 4, 2006 Members Posted January 4, 2006 I'm looking for a new acoustic in a cheaper price range. I already have a full size Fender (DG-7) which isn't the greatest but does it's job. I recently checked out a couple Big Baby's 307's and though they seemed to be hit or miss, I found one that was really nice. What's the overall feeling about these guitars?
Members SilleeSpyder Posted January 4, 2006 Members Posted January 4, 2006 I think they are a great guitar for the money. They play like butter and sound pretty nice. The Big Baby is so far the best guitar I have seen for $400 -in my humble opinion. If you have found "the one"... then get it.
Members Vibroluxman Posted January 4, 2006 Members Posted January 4, 2006 I like them, and if you're looking for a smaller guitar, they sound great for the money. If you wanted a fullsize guitar, I'd probably go with the 100 series. The Baby series is made in mexico now, while the 100 and up is still made in the us.
Members Ely Plains Posted January 4, 2006 Members Posted January 4, 2006 I'm geetar shopping and have $500 to spend and because we are on the subject of Taylors, I saw a Big Baby 307 for $379, was impressed with sound, I also saw a Taylor 110 E for $669. I think I may bite the bullet and buy the 110 E. I know I risk sounding like a rank amateur, but both of these guitars are solid tops right?

Members studyscoot Posted January 4, 2006 Members Posted January 4, 2006 Yes, both have solid tops. I'm a big taylor fan, I have two. However, I don't think that Taylor makes the best dreadnoughts. If thats the body style that you're looking for, I would strongly suggest checking out Larrivee. For around $800 you can get a Larrivee D-03, which is much higher quality than the Taylor 100 series. It also has all solid wood. I think the build, quality ,and sound of my larrivee 3 series is at least as good as Taylor's 300 and 400 series. It plays just as easy as my taylors too! Since it looks like you're on a little tighter budget, look into a used larrivee 3. You should be able to find one in great condition for less than the Taylor 110 price. check out the classifieds at the larrivee forum.
Members Cldplytkmn Posted January 4, 2006 Members Posted January 4, 2006 used Larri D-03s or -02s if you can find em.

Members SilleeSpyder Posted January 5, 2006 Members Posted January 5, 2006 I still think for a lower price the big baby is really a better value than the 110s are. If you jump any higher, you might as well get a Larrivee.

Members happy hours Posted January 7, 2006 Members Posted January 7, 2006 I'm happy with mine.you can get one used for less than 300.
Members samthinguy Posted January 8, 2006 Members Posted January 8, 2006 I have a big baby I love, but if I had to do it all again I might consider a 110, just play both and decide...or maybe even more intriguing would be the breedlove atlas ac200 or something like that, looks really nice.
