Members guit30 Posted January 3, 2006 Members Posted January 3, 2006 Just saw a pic of Johnny Cash in an ad for a new rerelease of a DVD playing an Alvarez, looked like a MD80 or 90 or Yairi,(my favorite dude)Jim
Members lalatingstrings Posted January 3, 2006 Members Posted January 3, 2006 i have seen a pic of him playing a black yairi dy-40.a lovley guitar.
Members Vibroluxman Posted January 3, 2006 Members Posted January 3, 2006 yeah but the last album that I had heard him on, his voice sounded rougher than my dad after two packs of smokes in one day.
Members Cldplytkmn Posted January 3, 2006 Members Posted January 3, 2006 the beauty of cash's late (and especially american iv, which was released the year before he died) records to me, is the rawness that was in his music his whole life, is amplified by time and probably by physical impairment to some degree. saying that cash's voice sounded rough is like saying your mercedes runs smooth.

He was dying. If you haven't seen the movie, see it if you like J.R. Cash. It's fabulous. He IS the man.
Members JohnnyCanuck Posted January 5, 2006 Members Posted January 5, 2006 He played a '59 Gibby J-45 for a number of years, included it on some of his early album covers as well.
Members dboy420 Posted January 5, 2006 Members Posted January 5, 2006 I always thought he played a Martin as his main guitar.
Members lalatingstrings Posted January 5, 2006 Members Posted January 5, 2006 yes the martin i believe is his main guitar, but like all of us i guess he had G.A.S.i have seen him with many different gits.gibson included, but i paid particular attn when i saw him with a yairi.cause i love em.
Members hockey_musician Posted January 7, 2006 Members Posted January 7, 2006 doesnt a man in black play an ESTEBAN? in a cape? and long nails?
Members HD28HLA Posted January 7, 2006 Members Posted January 7, 2006 I just hope it was an Alvarez he (Juaquin Phoenix) trashed in "Walk the Line" and not one of his treasured Martins.
Members JasmineTea Posted January 7, 2006 Members Posted January 7, 2006 I've got one called "The Sun Years", stuff from the '50s. Seems like every track has an Echoplex. Gives everything that slicked-back sound.
