Members Uria7286 Posted January 9, 2006 Members Posted January 9, 2006 ok right now my only acoustic is a ovation cc057 needless to say, the sound on it unplugeed is pretty good but not great. i saw this model at samash while ordering a fender straocaster. i played it and loved it. it was setup and really well and sounded great then i saw the price tag $499**** great price! i originally thought itd be in the $800-1000 range. anyone have any experiences with this guitar? is it good quality? it sounds great and its a martin so needless to say it should be great. what are your thoughts?
Members DonK Posted January 9, 2006 Members Posted January 9, 2006 Haven't played the DX1, but have owned a fair number of Martin's and have never been let down. If you like it, go for it. I sold a CC057 a few months ago that I'd bought for my son (who refuses to play acoustic). Not bad, but I'll take a Martin just any day, if only for the playing feel.

Closer to $400 I think they're good guitars. It will certainly last a lifetime, being made of HPL. They have a nice even tone, every one I've played has been just about like the one before it, so they're consistant. I like the X series guitars with spruce tops. I think the ones with HPL top sound rather un-interesting. You can't go wrong with the DX1. However, one thing you may notice (I did) is that all of the sound happens directly in front of the guitar. With a solid wood guitar there's sound coming from the back and sides too. Not a bad thing.
