Members phishmarisol Posted January 9, 2006 Members Posted January 9, 2006 So my dad just came over with a 12 string for me...very stoked to have it but I can't get it tuned. And yes I have read all about it. I can get the four low strings tuned cause they are standard tuning...but I can't get their octave higher counterparts or the last 2 done...the problem is that I don't know how to find an octave above. I just have a standard tuner...any help? thanks!
Members sid langley Posted January 10, 2006 Members Posted January 10, 2006 ok - standard E tuning. Top two strings are E - tune them together next two are B, as you'd expect third string can be unison Gs or standard G with the thin string tuned to the third fret top string Next down is D - standard - with the octave tuned to third fret second string Next is A, with thin one tuned to A at second fret of G string (NOT NOT the octave string if there is one) Then you have bottom E with octave sounding same as second fret of D string (not the octave) You should, forgive for saying so, be able to tell when the octaves sound right from the thick string. Good luck ... there are all sorts of other 12-string tunings to drive you loopy good luck
Members Tony Burns Posted January 10, 2006 Members Posted January 10, 2006 congratulations ! remember when I got my first twelve string back in 1971 ( a Yamaha ) I had a blast with mine - get yourself a capo on the second fret and tune it down - it will be easier to play !
