Members knockwood Posted January 9, 2006 Members Posted January 9, 2006 ...is an unbelievable genius. Every time I hear one of his songs I wish I'd written it.
Members Cldplytkmn Posted January 9, 2006 Members Posted January 9, 2006 he really is... lyrically he's unbelievable... and he always hits me personally... like i know the guy or something
Members Rada Posted January 9, 2006 Members Posted January 9, 2006 I was supposed to see him in LA in October(I think), but his tour got postponed because he had some infection......he rescheduled the dates so now I see him March (I think)....it should be a great show, he's such a brilliant songwriter!
Members knockwood Posted January 10, 2006 Author Members Posted January 10, 2006 The funny thing is, I've never really just sat down and listened to his albums straight through. I'll encounter a song here, a song there... And I'm knocked right on my ass each time. I heard "Say Hello, Wave Goodbye" for the first time this morning. I cannot get that song out of my head. The fact that I didn't write it is the source of all my frickin' darkness. The guy is just lyrically Beautiful.Good.God.

What an amazing song. You write one song like that in a lifetime, you have earned DUDE-AND-A-HALF status as far as I'm concerned. But this guy just keeps writing 'em...

Members sventvkg Posted January 11, 2006 Members Posted January 11, 2006 Man, I have to agree...David Gray is just great!
Members aeschylus Posted January 12, 2006 Members Posted January 12, 2006 I think Shine and This Year's Love are his knockout songs.
Members Fatbaby Posted January 12, 2006 Members Posted January 12, 2006 Gray didn't write say hello wave goodbye . . . that was marc Almond i think.. 80's bleach haired guy.

Well then, I guess he didn't write the Van Morrison lyrics at the end of the recording, either. Still, like I said, you write one brilliant song in this lifetime, you have my respect.

Dave didn't write that one so don't beat yourself up too much, I think it's a tune by an 80's band called "Soft Cell" or something. I'm a big DG fan as well.
