Members seraphim7s Posted January 12, 2006 Members Posted January 12, 2006 Something with *thump* for heavy rhythm work (strumming, walking basslines, and ornaments, hammer-ons, pull-offs etc... off the nut) but enough clarity in the mids and sparkle in the treble so that the other frequencies aren't completely drowned out. I'm a big fan of the look and feel of the Gibson style dreads, is there anything *similar* to that without the price tag? Solid tonewoods and good build quality would be great - I'm not bothered about 'bells and whistles'. The Gibson scale length is preferred, but not essential - I like to use fairly heavy strings. The genre is country, rockabilly etc... think CCR, Stones c. '68-'72, Neil Young, mid 60s Dylan, the Band. [Very sorry if a similar question has already been asked, but I've found that the search function on this site brings up about 7 million replies, and I haven't the time!]

Members Cldplytkmn Posted January 13, 2006 Members Posted January 13, 2006 800 bucks... you're oh so very close to used J45 range... there's other Gibson models you could pick up used too... I wouldn't rule out a used guitar.

Members seraphim7s Posted January 13, 2006 Author Members Posted January 13, 2006 The cheapest I could get a J-45 on the 'net would be about 1000 pounds ($1,775) so no way in hell would I get it for anything less than about 700 quid ($1,250) on ebay or whatever. We really get ripped off in the UK And good God, the Seagulls seem great for the price! I just wish there was something with a more J45 look in the 'M' series. Still... I'll definitely try and check them out.
Members guit30 Posted January 13, 2006 Members Posted January 13, 2006 Try the Gibson workingman, same guitar, no frills, Gibsons are great
Members rh2d Posted January 14, 2006 Members Posted January 14, 2006 For years I have wanted a J 45 but could not find one with the tone I wanted. I found what I wanted in the Blueridge BG 160 I think. Cost around $500. Tone, excellant for the price. Check one out.
