Members gelewis Posted January 25, 2006 Members Posted January 25, 2006 Has anyone installed an Earvana nut or had their acoustic guitar modified with the Fuzz Feiten system, and if so what were the results? I have a Taylor 12-string that I really love, but the intonation on some of the chords is driving me crazy. I'm wondering if one of these modifications will help resolve the problem.
Members Freeman Keller Posted January 25, 2006 Members Posted January 25, 2006 No experience with either of these but another option is to have a custom compensated saddle made for your guitar. My D12-28 had lousy intonation until I had this done and now it plays very well up the neck. The saddle looks like a saw blade, but it works. It is not inexpensive but if your luthier (or you) is willing to take the time it might be the way to go. Mine also cut the nut for the gauge strings I use (and the fact that I play a lot of slide) and did some ramping of the string slots. I had been GASing for a LKSM but now I'll keep the old Martin. btw - I've got a Colosi saddle in my Taylor 6 and the compensation from him is very good - you might find out what he would do for your 12.
Members pipedwho Posted January 26, 2006 Members Posted January 26, 2006 Buzz Feiten or Earvana on a 12 string would be amazing. The biggest problem string is normally the double G. As Freeman Keller said, an intonated saddle bone is your best bet. It'll look like the blade on a buzz-saw when they're done, but will be much improved. Note: It will still not be perfect, but that's really the idea of a 12 string. I feel that too much perfection detracts from a 12 string's characteristic jangle.
