After about 10 years of not playing professionally I'm starting to get some gig offers locally. Help remind me why I shouldn't take 'em. Any and all "bad gig" stories welcome. Thanks in advance.

Broke six strings in 2 sets. I was broke in those days, and saved all my used strings just in case. "Just in case" happened..

Played a gig on a flatbed truck in a parking lot. Standing on the edge of the stage doing a solo, was playing an early '60s Gibson 330, almost lost my balance..

It's 3:30AM, we're drunk, it's snowing like hell, we're carrying PA speakers up the stairs..

It's 10 below zero, we got a gig 40 miles away, the truck breaks down about half way there..

My girlfriend comes to the gig, starts dancing with a guy, goes home with him..

A differnt girlfriend comes to the gig, starts drinking with a guy, goes home with him..

Another girlfriend comes to the gig, goes home with the bass player...wtf?

what a good thread.o ill never forget it.it was at a place called the "meow mix"in new york city.i was playing solo acoustic 12 string guitar and i went on after this hard rock crankin the distortion band.they were doing like guns and roses covers and sh..,anyway i went on with my acoustic and before i even played a note the crowd just was not having the acoustic thing.they talked so loud i could not even hear myself.i played like three songs told em to f off and left.it was awful.of course now i laugh about it.and am very thankful i dont play bars and rock clubs now i do coffee shops and small theatre's.and art galleries and stuff.no smokey rock clubs for me.

Several years ago our keyboard player got us a gig that paid 100% of the cover charges. The cover charge was $5 per person and the place was PACKED. It was a pretty big place and you couldn't have fit 5 more people in the building. While we were playing I was trying to decide what I was going to spend my money on. After the gig we were paid $30. It was a 4 piece band so that was $7.50 apiece. Our keyboard player didn't find out until too late that it was at a private club and members got in free!!!!!!!!!

Played a Friday/Saturday gig about 150 or so miles away. No hotel, brought a tent, we all slept in it. It rained both nights of course.

Commander Cody played there the weekend before us. Wonder where he slept?

Played a wine bar gig where a crowd of school teachers were having some kind of reunion. They kept asking us to turn down as they couldn't hear themselves talk and eventually offered to pay us more than our fee to STOP playing ...
