i was in a situation kinda similar this summer... my best friend has played drums for me for a few years, and recently decided to go back to school and get married, so he informed me a week after we finally found a suitable bass player that he was bailing. started the process of finding a new drummer and said f*** it and let the bass player go. I don't know that i'll ever try to get into another "band" although i'm gonna have to try to scrounge up some backing to gig this summer.

Depends what kind of people you're working with. I don't enjoy arguing about music. I'm not going to argue about music. The first time a guy argues with me about music, he gets fired immediatly. No second chance. I hav'nt been practicing guitar all these years so I could argue about music.

I would do that but I never learned how to sing and play. Speaking of that, any advice on how to teach myself how to that? Also, I am not a very good singer so advice on that would be welcome too.

Sounds like a thread that I should start actually!

I can do both well by themselves but was quite terrible at the same time...in bands I have always been able to concentrate more on the singing and mask some sloppy guitar with the other guitarist

but for awhile now I have just been concentrating heavily on singing & playing at the same time ...I want to be out doing stuff real soon

Its a real challenge for me to get both parts down but is alot of fun! I am not sure why I didn't start to do this ages ago , but whenever I recorded I did both parts seperate and to be honest it was always so hard for me (mainly just getting the co-ordination right) I kinda gave up until just now (sick of not playing!)

there's some difficult songs i've learned that have taken a bit to be able to sing and play them, and the best thing i've learned to do is if its more of a fingerpicked piece, just block out some chords to it. and if its a strummed piece, to not strum it, just play the chord changes. Ex. if you have an A for four measures followed by a Bm for 2 measures and a D after that for 2 more... just play one A, let it ring 4 measures, play the Bm, etc. it'll help you hear where the lyrics go in relation to the changes, then you just have to fill out the rest of the strumming, or work it back to the picking.
