Well I'm guessing it has something to do with 3 distinctly different types of guitars and if you don't know what you want yet how can anyone help you make a choice? If I'm wrong about t60's answer it just goes to show you if it's not easy for you, it's even harder for us. I too don't favor Ovations, some folks love them. I think the best way to put it is narrow down your search to fit your needs......I personally think every acoustic player need a good dread, but that's me.
Members knockwood Posted February 5, 2006 Members Posted February 5, 2006 I highly recommend getting on the Staten Island Ferry (free ride) and visiting Mandolin Brothers. Best acoustic instrument store in or near NY. By all accounts one of the best on the planet. Try out everything in your range. They have a LOT more there than is advertised on their website:http://www.mandoweb.com

Members SoundwaveLove Posted February 5, 2006 Members Posted February 5, 2006 I see ovations as a scourge upon this earth. I have refused to play with my good friend on several occasions because he uses an ovation and i can't stand the tone. (he's a metal guitarist so obviously he values volume over tone) For 300 Bucks a cedar top Art & Lutherie is the best guitar for the money, seriously forget about everything else in that price range. I guess the spruce top is nice too, but spruce needs to break in, and off the shelf it sounds a little too bright. Those are also the only godin made acoustic guitars i like, i don't care for simon and pats, or the seagals. 700 is a sticky price range, not much great guitars can be had new. But once in a guitar centers I saw a used tacoma DF-21 for 700. I still regret not buying it that is a hell of a guitar. For 700 i would look at the used stuff.
Members jackwr Posted February 6, 2006 Members Posted February 6, 2006 If I only had $700 here's what I'd buy.http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/Guitar/Acoustic?sku=514700
