Members Highway_61 Posted February 5, 2006 Members Posted February 5, 2006 I'm aware of all the caveats: know that one shouldn't adjust more than an 1/8 of a turn at a time, know that one needs to be careful and patient, as well, know one needs to wait for the neck to actually respond to the truss rod adjustment. Now, with that in mind, here's my question:How many 1/8 turns have you had to make to adjust a newly purchased guitar? Thank you.
Members JasmineTea Posted February 5, 2006 Members Posted February 5, 2006 You can go as much as 1/4. And don't forget to loosen the strings. Tightening or loosening? Tightening, you should get results immediatly. It'll take a little time for the wood to fully catch up with the truss, but it will change immediatly. Loosening on the other hand, does'nt always give quick results.
Members Highway_61 Posted February 5, 2006 Author Members Posted February 5, 2006 Thank you very much, JT. I'm loosening. Have done a 1/4, and it has helped tremendously, and was wondering if I dared do another tweak. The guitar travelled to AZ from Indiana, so I think it's possible that it got used to Indiana climate/humidity. Do you think that's possible?

You'd have to realy tighten a truss a lot to cause any trouble. Go ahead and do whatever seems right, within reason. Someone who's cautious (as you seem to be) is not likely to over-do it. When I look down a neck, I hold it as though I'm aiming a rifle, headstock away from you. Get some light to reflect off the edge of the f/b. Look at both sides, make a compramise. Between the saddle hight and the neck-bow, you'll be able to adjust it as you 'd like it to be. It's realy not hard to do. The saddle is actualy the trickier part because, unlike a truss, you can't just turn it back to where it was. If you sand too much off, you're screwed. Mabey all it needs is time and set of strings pulling against it.
