My girlfriend's mother has what appears to be an extremely old Gibson acoustic just lying around in the corner of her bedroom that she hasn't been able to get appraised properly. It's in pretty good condition except for the knobs on the tuners basically disintegrating. Neck looks pretty straight, and I didn't see any cracks. From what she's been able to see written inside it, the serial number is 55731 and the model is an L-50. Anybody know how much it might be worth? $900-$1500. Depending on the condition. I was shopping for one not long ago and that's what they were going for.

It's not a highly collectable model, basically it's a beginner model. Cool guitar nontheless. A step above the L-48. Here's what Vintage guitar info says:

Model: L-50 Acoustic Archtop
Available: 1932 to 1971.
Collectibility Rating: D- (a very basic non-cutaway model).

1932 L-50 introduction specs:
14.75" wide, 17 1/2" long, flat back, most with round sound hole, ebony bridge, short trapeze tailpiece, pickguard glued to top, single bound top and back, dot fingerboard inlays, pearl "Gibson" logo, dark mahogany sunburst finish.

1934 L-50 specs:
19.25" long, most with "F" holes, standard trapeze tailpiece, elevated pickguard.

1935 L-50 specs:
16" wide, arched back.

1936 L-50 specs:
Tailpiece with raised diamonds.

1943 (wartime) L-50 specs:
wood crosspiece on tailpiece (to save metal), 3 on-a-plate tuners, painted or decal "Gibson" logo.

1946 L-50 specs:
Single bound pickguard, single bound fingerboard with pearloid trapezoid inlays.

1949 L-50 specs:
Laminated beveled edge pickguard.

L-50 discontinued in 1971.

Nope, but it is a cool guitar. I'm pretty sure that guitar is solid wood, not laminated. I think they started using lam a couple years later, which makes it even cooler.

I'd keep it.

G-base

Guitarlist I don't think this one's gonna work There's three ranging from $995 to $1650
