Members tx.toadies Posted February 10, 2006 Members Posted February 10, 2006 Is it just me or do you think that dark colored acoustics are really sexy? Not necessarily black guitars but dark brown. Any thoughts/pics?
Members Cldplytkmn Posted February 10, 2006 Members Posted February 10, 2006 i like sunbursts... and i've also seen a rubbed sunburst dark brown finish that i bet would kill you... lemme try to find a picture.
Members kwakatak Posted February 10, 2006 Members Posted February 10, 2006 The only example of such a finish that comes to my mind are the Martin all-mahogany 15s. It wasn't until I laid eyes on a Larrivee 03 that I saw that mahogany is actually honey-brown in color. After that my opinion of the dark finish on mahogany became less favorable. Besides, the "natural" dark color of rosewood - not to mention the tonal qualities - is so much more appealing to me.

Members nylon rock Posted February 10, 2006 Members Posted February 10, 2006 Old Martin 00-17, with their gloss finish, and if in very good condition, have incredible appeal to me.
Members JasmineTea Posted February 10, 2006 Members Posted February 10, 2006 I saw a Hofner jazz guitar with a hand rubbed violin finish. That was pretty cool.
Members HD28HLA Posted February 10, 2006 Members Posted February 10, 2006 My 000-15 and Sunburst OM-35 are both very sexy.
Members bjorn-fjord Posted February 10, 2006 Members Posted February 10, 2006 Is that Koa? The grain and figure are right but it looks a little dark for Koa.

Tasmanian Blackwood. It's related to Koa, just a little darker. A little deeper tone IMO. If you know how Koa sounds somewhere between rosewood and mahogany, BW is more towards RW to me.
