Members brooksblues Posted February 15, 2006 Members Posted February 15, 2006 How good would a Transducer be on a resonator. I have an all metal body resonator that I dont play too often because It doesnt get loud enough for live gigs. I dont want to spend too much money and get a pickup installed so I thought of possibly an inner mount transducer pickup, perhaps inside the f hole close to the cone. Would this give me a good sound?
Members Freeman Keller Posted February 16, 2006 Members Posted February 16, 2006 I don't have pickups in either of my resonators (when they are gigged we just stick a mic in front of the cone) but I've looked in to it a little. You want to pick up the cone sound itself - most of the reso's that I've heard with magnetic pups just sound like a noisy electric guitar. Highlander makes a highly regarded p/u that replaces the biscuit of that kind of resonator and Fishman/Beard makes one that goes in the center of both a spider and biscuit bridge (Jerry Douglas endorses this one and you know how he sounds ). Stew Mac has several different p/u's in their catalog. Bob Brozman has a great FAQ on amplifying a reso - here is the link Brozman FAQ A good system is going to be expensive but since you are going to have to take it apart anyway do it right.
