Members emergency_pants Posted February 23, 2006 Members Posted February 23, 2006 There are so many makes and types of strings! How did you narrow the field down to the correct type for you? My new Tanglewood has D'Addario (Medium , I guess) strings. They sound great. Is it just a matter of finding a manufacturer your prefer? And how do you go about choosing weight? Sorry if this is a common question... searching for 'strings' returns LOTS of posts! Cheers, Simon.
Members catdaddy Posted February 23, 2006 Members Posted February 23, 2006 Matching your strings to your instrument is pretty much a trial and error thing. With each new instrument I try several brands and guages of strings to see what I prefer. Each guitar is different. For short scale I prefer mediums. Long scale I prefer lights. Phosphor Bronze vs Bronze, etc. Takes time.
Members Andrewrg Posted February 23, 2006 Members Posted February 23, 2006 Apart from the very evident differences between the several brands of coated strings, and the difference between phosphor bronze and regular bronze,I havent really found a great deal of difference between them all,and I tried loads. Find the type of string which suits you best and then get the ones with the most attractive packaging!
Members JasmineTea Posted February 23, 2006 Members Posted February 23, 2006 Take notes. I can't remember which ones I like and which ones I don't like. Seems like I always default to Martin or GHS. They're not very simaler in tone, but I know I like them both. Lately it's more a matter of guage for me. As long as they're ph/br, I'll try them.
