Members emergency_pants Posted February 26, 2006 Members Posted February 26, 2006 Is there such a thing as a perfect all-round guitar? Or, if not perfect, the best. By all-round, I mean which guitar is fantastic in the most situations... playing anything, any style and anywhere... by anybody? (Within reason) I'm not in the market to buy a new guitar... just curious to know what people's thoughts are. Is there such a thing as a guitar which is adaptable to such an extent? Cheers,Simon.
Members Cldplytkmn Posted February 26, 2006 Members Posted February 26, 2006 for me its the larrivee L body in whichever flavor you prefer, mahogany or rosewood.
Members catdaddy Posted February 27, 2006 Members Posted February 27, 2006 For me the ideal all around perfect guitar would have to be one that is good for the things that I like to do which is fingerstyle, flat pickin' and hard strumming. Since I fingerpick with bare fingers the guitar must be very responsive to a light touch as well as not break up or compress when I thrash it hard while strumming bluegrass or country blues. A tough combination of requirements since it covers a lot of sonic territory. Generally the guitars I've found that do the best job of doing what I want are those with scalloped bracing which seems to allow for the responsiveness needed for my fingerstyle playing. As for handling the hard strumming, spruce topped instruments seem to handle that best. My Collings D2H does as good a job as any guitar I've ever played.

Members knockwood Posted February 27, 2006 Members Posted February 27, 2006 The two that immediately came to mind have already been mentioned: OM-21 and the Larrivee L bodies.
Members caguile Posted February 27, 2006 Members Posted February 27, 2006 I'll just agree with the Larivee L body.
Members SteveKrasnow Posted February 27, 2006 Members Posted February 27, 2006 OM-21 and the Larrivee L bodies. LOL...I have a OM-21 and 2 Larriv
Members Tony Burns Posted February 27, 2006 Members Posted February 27, 2006 agree - but i like the OM-28V better ( at least for me ) larrivee is alot like the old Guilds ( great all purpose guitar ) - the OM-21 is a fantastic instrument !

Members DenverDave Posted February 27, 2006 Members Posted February 27, 2006 My main acoustic is a 'Mini Jumbo - MJ' - also know as a 'Small Jumbo - SJ' by some builders. I really like that guitar size for everything and I do everything with it - fingerstyle, pop, heavy strumming, lead on occasion. It's my favorite guitar size and it works great for me for everything. It also records incredibly well...
