Members Jaggery Posted March 3, 2006 Members Posted March 3, 2006 ok, I have shipped electrics and amps with ups/fedex. no problems. Is there anything I need to do extra to make sure the acoustic reaches fine? Its a dread in a hardshell case.
Members Hudman Posted March 3, 2006 Members Posted March 3, 2006 I sold 4 different acoustics on Ebay over the past 12 months. I ship them in the same type of box the manufacturer ships them in. I pack the shipping box with either styrofoam peanuts, plastic air bags or crumbled up newspaper. Also make sure your guitar can't shift inside the case. You might need to wedge a piece of card board or a piece of styrofoam between the top of headstock and the case (depending how well your guitar fits in the case). I ship electrics the same way. Never had a single problem.
Members Freeman Keller Posted March 3, 2006 Members Posted March 3, 2006 see Bryan Kimsey's site. And remove the endpin.

If you don't make sure the guitar sits with the endpin in a pocket at that end, otherwise when the shipping bozo drops it out of the truck and it lands on that end it won't drive the endpin through the endblock. It does happen.

The best advice I can give is don't ship ups, not a guitar, not an amp, not silverware, not a freaking screwdriver. The only way I will ship anything ups is if the shippee demands it. Too many damaged goods and too many mis-routed shipments.

It does happen. Sure, I can follow the concept. Although, I am unaware of any new guitar being shipped with them installed. There usually is padding in the case AND shipping box to prevent that from happening.

I feel that way about FedEx and the USPS. I never had a single problem with UPS or DHL. Tons of FedEx and USPS problems. It must depend on where you live.

Members JasmineTea Posted March 4, 2006 Members Posted March 4, 2006 I'll remember that one about the end-pin.
Members Freeman Keller Posted March 4, 2006 Members Posted March 4, 2006 Originally posted by JasmineTea I'll remember that one about the end-pin. there was a horror story at UMGF about a prewar that was dropped on its end and the sided split very nicely all the way around starting at the end pin. here is Bryan's page shipping a guitar
Members High Strung Posted March 5, 2006 Members Posted March 5, 2006 Definitely take the tension off the neck...i.e.: slack off the tuners!

I am talking about the yellow DHL truck that pulls up in front of my house. DHL doesn't use the USPS exclusively. Again, it may be different in your area.

FedEx has damaged a few and delivered a few late. I never had a problem with DHL or UPS.

Some folks have luck with one or two, others different shippers. I personally have had lousy luck with Fed Ex and UPS and I have accounts with both. DHL has been ok and the USPS has been, for me, the most dependable of the bunch and normally the least expensive. The last thing I had coming in via UPS took two weeks from Phoenix. A distance of about 350 miles. The package made the local distribution center in about a week and then was shipped to Salt Lake and from there to God only knows. Anyway, it did finally show up.Go figure.
