Members butterknucket Posted March 8, 2006 Members Posted March 8, 2006 Something that doesn't have jagged frets and has decent volume and playability, yet is affordable?
Members jackwr Posted March 9, 2006 Members Posted March 9, 2006 As with all makes of guitars, there's no one right answer and there is no subsitute for playing it. I usually play a 1970 Gibson A5 special. Have played quite a few more expensive mandolins that don't hold a candle to it. Also have played an occasional "budget" model that has blowen me away. Play all you can find, when you find the right one you'll know. A friend just bought a Johnson, new F style with case for $150. It's a real good one. When to the same store played the 5 they had left and not one was a keeper. Stick to your price range and keep looking till you find one you like. The one I started on my Dad got at a flea market for $15, better than most under $300, but looked like {censored}. Painted with silver paint, brushed. I did refinish that one.
