Members SusanV Posted March 11, 2006 Members Posted March 11, 2006 Lately I've noticed a few guitars on Ebay that look to me like they have water damage, although it wasn't mentioned. I would bet that there are some used guitars around now that were damaged during Katrina. I wonder if water damage is fatal to a good guitar? Anyone have any experience with that? susan
Members maudib Posted March 11, 2006 Members Posted March 11, 2006 I think you would have to get them repaired by a luthier, and it could be fatal.....I've seen a few, my friend is a luthier....and I live in New Orleans.
Members JasmineTea Posted March 12, 2006 Members Posted March 12, 2006 I think it'd be quite the novelty to have a musical instrument that was pulled out of the water in N.O. after Katrina. Preferably an old tuba, or an old four string banjo.
Members Queequeg Posted March 12, 2006 Members Posted March 12, 2006 turning your guitar into a boat (or, more accurately, a submarine) is not highly recommended. these guitars will self-destruct. the wood glue gets watered down and becomes... well... water; not glue. the inside of the box is unfinishe ans will absorb the water causing the top to warp, and unless its a cheap import with laminiated back & sides, they are suspect, too. if you want a novelty, get yourself an Elvis lamp.
