Members Dead Skunk Posted March 3, 2006 Members Posted March 3, 2006 Finally upgraded from several old junkers and actually bought a new, non-second hand, guitar. Played a bunch at the shops and really liked the Samick best in my price range (under $300). Sound was good and comparable to some others, but the neck seemed to fit my left hand just right which just made it seem so easy to play. Couldn't find the exact combo I liked so I took a chance and ordered from online to get a free hard case. It arrived today and I'm very pleased. Found only one finish flaw on the back of the neck. Sounds great. Low, easy action and I can't find a buzz anywhere. The solid top has a nice tight grain and looks great. Model D6CE for those who care. One question that I haven't been able to find an answer to: Does anyone know what size strings Samick puts on at the factory?
Members Teddy G4THT Posted March 11, 2006 Members Posted March 11, 2006 I don't know what gauge the strings are but I just bought the Samick OM 5 CE and it came with D'Addario ESP strings. Feel like a light or medium light to me. I'm working on trying to get mine set up as I am getting some buzzing from the D string, especially when fretted at the 5th. I am going to try medium gauge strings first. If that doesn't work I guess I'll try adding some relief to the neck by loosening the truss rod a small amount. You could try e-mailing Samick but I have not had any luck with them getting back to me on questions I have had.http://www.samickguitar.com/index.html
Members Hudman Posted March 11, 2006 Members Posted March 11, 2006 Congrats! Those Samicks look nice. I never got a chance to play one. .012 - .053 gauge strings (lights) are pretty much industry standard on acoustics. I would bet that's what you have.
