Members GUITKRAZY Posted March 17, 2006 Members Posted March 17, 2006 Hello all, Last night I was playing my Takamine Acoustic; It is a G series and and 3 yrs old. I really don't play the guitar that often, (It normally sits on a stand in my studio) anyway, I stummed a chord and all of the strings seemed in tune, but when I ran it through the tuner all of the string were about a half a step sharp. after playing it a while (I forgot how much I enjoyed playing it) the strings went sharp again. After doing a profile of the neck it appeared that the action at the top of the neck was normal; but I could see where the action gradually raises to the bridge. Is this normal? if not what do I have to do to correct the problem? Granted, the going out of tune could be because it desperately needs new strings? I am a little worried- I love the guitar and am starting to do some acoustic gigs? Please help!
Members Freeman Keller Posted March 17, 2006 Members Posted March 17, 2006 Yes, the action rises from the first fret to the bridge. Buy a 24 inch straight edge (a good one) and a machinist's rule (graduated in 64's). Go to Frets.com and learn how to measure your action and neck angle. Don't screw with anything (like the truss rod). Report back Oh, and take it off the stand and put it back in its case with a good humidifier.
