I've been playing off and on for about 14 years (mostly off), and have always wanted to learn classical guitar. I know absolutely no theory, I just goof around with some rock and blues. I would like to hear anyones thoughts on taking classical guitar lessons.

Also I'm in the Seattle area, so any recommendations would be appreciated.

Do it!

I started off life as a rock/blues guitarist. Seven years in, when I was 17, I became interested in learning classical guitar and took lessons for summers in two consecutive years. It really helped......taught me the fundamentals of good technique. I've been dabbling in classical guitar on my own ever since (that was ~30 years ago).

As with learning anything, the quality of the teacher makes a big difference, so take your time and find a good teacher.

Funny, I just started again.

Lots of benefits. You'll learn some theory, learn to read music, and be completely entertaining to people with just solo guitar.

Its not that big a hurdle, in fact, its quite easy. For me, he had me start off learning only 3 notes. I think E, F, and G on the high e string in first position. So the music I was to read only had 3 notes. Not that much of a tune but its for learning purposes. Add a little bit here and there, then a scale, chords common to the music in the key, and a few pieces in that key.

Then its on to the next key.

Right now I can read in the keys of C and G in first position fluently. Thats when I stopped lessons but have started up again. Also gets you to the point where you can just look at music and hear how it sounds in your head.

The greatest thing is being able to play something, without never having heard it. On Wednesday, my friend had a simple classical guitar duet called Air by Haydn. Just stuck the music in front of me, and we played it and it sounded beautiful.

I'd love to get to the point where I can read all over the neck and all keys.
Its also addictive, since I started again, I really havent touched my electric. :D
