The dog has been around for a few years, the guitar is a new to me 50 year old Velazquez.

Wow, the years have been good to this guitar, tone-wise.......it's a real sweetie!

It does look almost new! Intersting story behind it. The guitar was built by Manuel Velazquez in 1956 for his friend, Edith Gorgas, who lived in Florida. There is an inscription on the label "Para Mi Amiga, Edith". In the early 80s, Edith sent the guitar back to Manuel for new frets, some repairs, and repolishing. Unfortunately, Edith passed away while the work was being done, so the completed instrument was returned to Edith's heir. He is not a guitar player and so the refinished instrument sat unplayed for the last 20+ years. Earlier this year, Edith's heir decided to sell the guitar on consignment through a dealer in CA, and earlier this week I bought it.

So yes, the guitar is practically "as new". And the sound is incredible, so sweet and pure. I feel so fortunate to be new owner and to give this guitar a new voice.

wow looks great and has a cool history to go along with it... i'm sure everyone previously involved with the guitar appreciates that it went to someone who gives a damn about where its been and who its been around...

here's to hoping it lasts another 50

yeah, I don't know how the frets wear out, esp on the unwound top three treble strings, but it does happen. check out the enclosed pic of a 1980 Ramirez 1a (not my guitar).

The couch has a sheet over it to keep dog fur off. When the sheet comes off it looks like what's in the pic below.......maybe still not up to Harmony-Central's Code of Aesthetics, but at least it is still not blue..... ;)

seeing frets wear out on a high quality guitar is a very good sign. It typically means it's a killer instrument - Congrats on the new member of your family !
