I'm interested in comments on the neck profile only. It's got a V-neck and it sounds like it's thicker than most mainstream acoustics - anyone have first-hand experience? I'm thinking about an EF-500, but the neck is the big thing for me. I like 'em really chunky! Thanks.

I played one briefly last year at a local store immediately after playing a Larrivee L-03R. In comparison the neck was chunky and the V seemed to fit right in the palm of my hand nicely; very comfortable and it felt as if my hand didn't have to strain as much to maintain pressure for barre chords.

BTW, I have short stubby and twisted fingers. My hand are more palm than finger too.

As for tone, the thing was loud and had much more punch than the L-03R.

I have an ef500r and I love the neck. It just seems to fit perfectly, I have a couple of fender acoustics I can't hardly go back to. I'll have a hard time buying anything without the V neck in the future.

The V neck is similar but not quite as wide as the one on my Buddy Holly reissue J-45. The J-45 feels oversized and hard for me to play but the Epi did not give me that impression though it was clearly thicker than the Masterbuilt AJ-500 I had.

DonK,

Try the AJ-500 RC 12-fret. I owned one shortly, but it was too chunky for me. I like to use my left thumb over the top for bass notes, and I struggled with it on this guitar. Other than that, I loved the guitar. It sounded awesome with great response. And it had a cool vibe with the slot head.

yesterday I played the following models:
DR500M
DR500P
DR500R
AJ500M
AJ500R

not one of 'em had a neck I'd consider chunky by any stretch, but the J45 copies were thicker than the DR's. the DR's were QUITE thin.

i did not play an EF though, sorry.

i know you didn't want comments on anything else but the neck profile, but i have to say this: if possible, please play the instrument you intend to buy before you buy it. the Masterbuilts are selling well but I thought they felt and sounded a little cheap. to my ears and hands that day, the chinese Guilds felt and sounded better than that Masterbuilts.
