Members Cldplytkmn Posted March 27, 2006 Members Posted March 27, 2006 DEAL... in all seriousness... i think this fills an awesome gap at gibson... its a jumbo... well, a 'jumbo' but its kinda like a webber roundbody or a larrivee L... plus, i dig the reverse belly bridge, the inlays are perfect, abalone rosette, sunburst, natural finish rosewood sides... neck and headstock binding... ebony fingerboard and bridge... short scale, wide nut... i can't find anything wrong with it... if i were building a perfect gibson it'd probably look alot like that... now, how does it sound? who knows... but i have a feeling that the answer is 'very good'

Don't be so damn superficial, man! It's purty... All right. Seriously. The damn thing is beautiful. And yes, when you get to the specs... it only gets better-looking. I know I gots to get my hands on one. When I saw this thing I actually set up a new "GAS" folder in my favorites so I can just open it up and look at this baby whenever I want to... Which has been often... I also happen to love Grover tuners. I'd probably prefer the full sized jobs to the minis, but... Man, this thing is a looker.

I think I may have to buy one... but then no one is ever coming to my house again. Ever. Except maybe the UPS guy to deliver strings now and then. And the pizza guy.

Members tonedrops Posted March 28, 2006 Members Posted March 28, 2006 I really don't understand that CJ-165 a "small body" sj-200? WTF?

That confused me too at first. But it's only an "SJ-200 Style" body. Looks like they basically scaled down the SJ-200. Gibson's website isn't the clearest in the world when it comes to specs - kind of frustrating. I think the SJ-200 has a 16-7/8" Lower bout, and the CJ-165 is scaled down to 15".

On another thread brand M is lauded for the moxy to use HPL at the lower end of its line, but brand T is of dubious distinction for an innovative neck and neckjoint, or CNC precision for that matter. It seems there is a little price discrepancy between the OM and my L7. ($13,999 vs $2,399)
Members Andrewrg Posted March 28, 2006 Members Posted March 28, 2006 I like the the look of the 165,like a scaled down 185,which is a scaled down 200.Can they get any smaller? Martin J40Martin D28Martin OM21Martin CEO5Gibson J185Blueridge BR 280Gibson F4,1916Capek F4Pavlu F5
