Members eor Posted March 30, 2006 Members Posted March 30, 2006 gee, these things go for cheap. and i know peaveys are underrated, bang for the buck type stuff, although i'm unfamiliar with their acoustic guitars. these are made in china, so eor supposes that's (partially, if not wholly) why they are so cheap. here's one that caught my eye. more than a thousand dollars less than the taylors that i was looking at: http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/Guitar/Acoustic?sku=511399 not that i expect it to be in that class, but for that money... love, eor

Members JasmineTea Posted March 31, 2006 Members Posted March 31, 2006 $179. JasmineTea thinks eor would not be happy with a $179 guitar. eor should look into guitars that have a life time warranty.
Members suprswd Posted March 31, 2006 Members Posted March 31, 2006 superswede likes talking in 3rd person, and he also thinks this guitar is a bucket of crap!
Members Fireproof Posted March 31, 2006 Members Posted March 31, 2006 FP wonders how someone could be "looking at Taylors in the $1000+ range" and then suddenly be intrigued by a $179 guitar. FP wonders what the budget really is and thinks there are likely better guitars out there.
Members eor Posted March 31, 2006 Author Members Posted March 31, 2006 how can eor best explain it? imagine you were at a party and there was this really hot girl you wanted to handle. but you get shot down and you know there is no way you'll have her. time passes and the party is about to end. you're dejected and wasted. a "less attractive" opportunity presents herself and she is down and you're wasted so you say {censored} it. it would take a good while to save up for the guitar i really want, but eor saw this and figured i'd settle for a beater in the meantime (provided it doesn't have herpes), use that to write and record at home and stuff and get a much nicer one later on. or at least, this will tide me over for now; i can buy other instruments and things until i can't take this one anymore. love, eor the peavey in particular because i know they're electrics are really good, and eor's a big fan of their amps. if you know of another ugly fat chick that's worth handling, eor'd be much obliged. price is pretty much the only consideration, because if i spend enough to get something decent, i would have rather the money go to my taylor. so eor's budget is low. mexican street vendor low.
Members Fireproof Posted March 31, 2006 Members Posted March 31, 2006 Nice! I get it now. I'm a fan of low-end Alvarez guitars. I've also played some low-end Yamahas that were surprisingly nice for the money. I don't have experience with Peavey acoustics. Perhaps others do.

Carguy thinks you should stay away from any guitar, especially a 12 string, that doesn't have a solid top. As far as your analogy to women, you will have far fewer problems with a guitar.

Members eor Posted April 1, 2006 Author Members Posted April 1, 2006 eor found a few alvarezes that i liked in the $400-$500 range, which is cheap, but way too much for this purpose. what do you guys think of the low end segulls and atlas series breedloves? i'm liking all these guitars, but they are more like changing/reassessing what i want rather than beaters. also, i saw a larrivee l5 for around $1200 or so. how bout that one? love, eor
Members JasmineTea Posted April 1, 2006 Members Posted April 1, 2006 JasmineTea thinks that if you can afford it, get the Larri. But it is'nt a beater. Edit: 03 series Larrivees are just as good and quite a bit cheaper. Like about $750. $850 for rosewood.

Members mrlucky7 Posted April 1, 2006 Members Posted April 1, 2006 Mr Lucky7 also thinks Hudmans avatar is funny as hell. Mr Lucky7 thinks Mr Esteban is trying to hold the neck from falling down on the picture. Mr Lucky7 wonders if Hudman wears a Zorro mask and cape on his free time. Mr Lucky thinks that eor would be pleased with the Larrivee but also recommends the 03. Mr Lucky7 thinks eor should get a Yamaha, Alvarez or Art & Lutherie as a beater. Mr Lucky would not suggest the Peavey to eor. Mr Lucky now feels like a Vulcan......

Unfortunately, during the European leg of the 1998 tour (Esteban, Hasselhoff & Hudman World Tour 1998), Hudman's cape was set on fire by the stage pyrotechnics during House of the Rising Sun. Luckily, Esteban ran across the stage in a flash to beat the flames off with his old Martin guitar (heck, that's all those are good for anyways when you own an Esteban guitar). Hasselhoff dumped his Zima on the smoldering mess to cheers from the German audience (Germans LOVE the guy). Hudman vowed never to wear polyester shirts or capes in the future. After the show, Hudman, Esteban and David Hasselhoff drank a few Zimas and laughed. Good times......
Members Hudman Posted April 2, 2006 Members Posted April 2, 2006 OK, time to be serious (ignore my avatar for a minute). I did a little research. That Peavey is hard to beat at that price. There isn't much out there in a 12 string under $200 with electronics. It's worth the gamble. If you don't like it, return it. Musicians Friend is easy to deal with.

There is a pretty good reason for that... There is also a pretty good reason why there are so many inexpensive 12 strings for sale - people buy em, can't play em, don't like em, try to sell em. Of course even worse than a new inexpensive 12 string is a used inexpensive 12 string with high stiff action, terrible intonation, and structural issues. Buyer be ware

That's why I told him to go ahead and buy it from Musicians Friend. He can return it if there are any problems with it.
