Members leftync Posted April 9, 2006 Members Posted April 9, 2006 i've got a seagull m6, and am wondering about strings. i think they came with d'addarios, masquerading as godin strings. strings last a long time on a short scale guitar. i bought some ernie balls in bulk, so i played them for more than a year. now i think i like john pearse a lot and love the dean markleys i just put on. i'd be interested in any other observations.
Members DonK Posted April 9, 2006 Members Posted April 9, 2006 You've covered most of the good strings, but man, that's a subjective topic. I personally use different strings on different guitars: Martin D-41 - John Pearse 610LMGallagher Doc Watson - John Pearson 600LTacoma DR-20 - John Pearse 610LMTaylor 414ce Ltd - Martin Silk & SteelTakamine EAN70 - John Pearse 600L I've used Elixirs at times, and found them to sound pretty good on everything except the Martin. For some reason those strings sound horrible on a Martin (I've tried them on my current D-41 and a prevous D-28). I like Martin SP's and D'Addario's too, but overall I favor John Pearse.
Members Laserpuls Posted April 10, 2006 Members Posted April 10, 2006 I prefer Elixir Nano 0.12 on my Seagull S6+CW. I tried and fried d'Addar's, Martin's but the Elixirs pervail. I use them as my standard now for the other guitars. Not the 0.10, too thin. But I do agree with DonK: this is a very subjective item all together. Try, spend some time and money on experimenting, record your sound and compare. Have fun!
Members Highway_61 Posted April 10, 2006 Members Posted April 10, 2006 Are Pearse strings really different from something else repackaged? I see them recommended quite often, and I am on a constant quest for strings (a tiring one, to be sure), so what is the overall opinion regarding Pearse? Also, I like Dean Alchemys for their clarity, but I do think they are stiffer than most. I like Martin Bluegrass SPs on my Martin and on the Ovation, as well.

Members texas twelve Posted April 11, 2006 Members Posted April 11, 2006 I asked the same questiond a few months ago, and got a plethera of answers. So, I asked a friend who also has a seagull, and he suggested Martin Marquis(sp). Well, I had already tried a pare of d's, and they were OK, but the Martins blew me away. Next set will also be a pare of Martin Marquis.
