Members Freeman Keller Posted April 11, 2006 Members Posted April 11, 2006 I've decided I don't need two resonators and have decided to part with my metal bodied Dobro. I really don't want the hassle of evil bay and would prefer to see a forumite playing it. Please feel free to PM me for information 1980

Members 54merk Posted April 13, 2006 Members Posted April 13, 2006 Freeman,Excuse me if I insert a plug for this instrument. I have the same model but mine was made in '95 after Gibson acquired OMI. This is a wonderful reso, really quite similar to National's Style O (9.5" cone and biscuit bridge) except with a 14 fret neck. The extra two frets of access make it a bit easier to play than a National and of course you can still have full access to one octave when playing in E or A with a capo on the second fret. My model is named the DM90 so possibly they changed designations later on to avoid confusion with the more common SPIDER bridge (w/10.5" cone) DM33 which they have recently discontinued (Gibson only makes wood bodied Dobros now). Now that I own my first National, a volcanic ash painted steel ResoRocket, I can say without a doubt that this model Dobro can hold its own against the National Style O's which I have played. National necks are about 1/16" wider but the 1.75" neck on mine has sufficient spacing between the strings. Never had a bit of trouble playing anything on it. This is a good price for anyone looking for a quality brass bodied metal bodied reso.

Thank you, may I quote you to a prospective buyer? Actually, after reading your glowing report I just may have to keep it (and I really don't want to part with it). I don't mind asking on the forum but do you think this is a realistic price - I have seen newer (Gibson-OMI) versions selling for 1500 - 1750, list new is 2710 and street new seems to be about 2350. There is a lot of interest in the asia import resonators but I personally believe that a "real" National or Dobro is worth the extra money and I would like to see this one in the hands of someone who will play it. It also catches a spotlight and you can focus it at some obnoxious bozo in the front row of the audience and just fry 'em.
Members 54merk Posted April 13, 2006 Members Posted April 13, 2006 Freeman,You are asking a perfectly reasonable price for this model.
