Members Skitzo130 Posted April 6, 2006 Members Posted April 6, 2006 I may receive a 60's martin d-21 for free but if i dont i want other low budget options i am looking very strongly at Washburn D30S your thoughts?
Members Treborklow Posted April 12, 2006 Members Posted April 12, 2006 Kind of hard to say without hearing one. $300 is pretty low line, I consider Garrisons to be my top pick for a cheap guitar and they'd still be around $500. By the same token, my brother has that all Mahogany Wabash and he likes it. I haven't heard it yet. It's even cheaper than the one you noted.
Members DonK Posted April 12, 2006 Members Posted April 12, 2006 I played one briefly last week, wasn't really impressed. Like most Washburn's I've encountered, it seemed to be really heavily built, and I don't mean that in a complimentary way. With all that eye candy -- abalone binding and such -- you've got to wonder where they cut costs to be able to sell the thing for $300. At $300, I think I'd lean more toward a Yamaha or Seagull: simpler appointments but overall better guitars IMO. I like the Blueridge line too, though the necks are too thin for me. If you could go a little higher, I'd look for a used Martin D-15, then you'd really be getting a cool guitar. The day I played the Washburn I also picked up a Crafter that the store was blowing out for $349, with electronics. It was a surprisingly nice guitar, especially at that price. I forget the model #.
