Members babablowfish Posted April 13, 2006 Members Posted April 13, 2006 Go on eBay and find a used Yamaha.
Members Queequeg Posted April 13, 2006 Members Posted April 13, 2006 that's probably about the best advice you will get here or elsewhere.
Members Gretsch Fan Posted April 13, 2006 Members Posted April 13, 2006 The other option is a beginner guitar or guitar pack from some place like GC or MF. There should be a few options from Epiphone, Fender, and probably Yamaha too. My local GC had some over-stocked Yamaha packs that they had green tagged at $100. Ebay is only a gamble on the honesty or clarity, etc., of the seller so check feedback carefully and look at the rating carefully enough to know if the seller had sold other instruments and how those sales went.

Members guitarcapo Posted April 14, 2006 Members Posted April 14, 2006 Tell him to DIVE on one of these very quick. They won't be around after a few weeks....
Members 6942 Posted April 14, 2006 Members Posted April 14, 2006 Epiphone, Alvarez, & Washburn. All make quite good sounding acoustic guitars. My wife has an Epiphone AJ-1 ($99), which she likes very much. It even has a neck, strap button, which is very unusual, for the price. My first acoustic, was a Washburn D100 ($99 - nice). Good luck, and happy guitar hunting!

Members Hudman Posted April 14, 2006 Members Posted April 14, 2006 Tell your friend to save up another $100. There are numerous, nice beginner guitars in the $200 range. You can get a a selection of solid spruce top guitars by Alvarez, Yamaha, Washburn, Epiphone and others between $150 and $200. A solid top will sound better as it "ages". Music123 have the Washburn D10SSB (sunburst) on closeout for $129. It has a solid spruce top. It's a great deal.http://www.music123.com/Washburn-D10SSB-i250032.music

Members harvey metcall Posted April 15, 2006 Members Posted April 15, 2006 Watch that Washburn D10 and the pricing at Music 123. The closeout is 130 but the open box is 180. Confusing? Yes. I saw a Jay Turser JTA-35 on there a couple of weeks ago. The regular one was 99.00, the b stock was higher and the c stock was higher than that. I ordered the 99.00. It came with some blems and it has a strange buzz in it. I think it was the c stock. Anyway, when the confirmation email came there was a disclaimer at the bottom about mistakes in pricing and desciption on their website. Overall though, it's still a beautiful guitar and has a nice straight nesk. Put some Martins on it and played it a while and decided it was worth keeping. Buyer beware.
Members Misha Posted April 15, 2006 Members Posted April 15, 2006 Tell your friend to save more money... a little bit... because what you are going to get for 100$ is.... a couple of beers!
