Made some room in the PM inbox, Hudman. Fire away. BTW, I just spritzed some Banaca in my Takamine's sound hole. Man, the tone is sweet! Next week I think I'll sprinkle some rose petals inside to freshen up the rosewood. 310 in the East River?!? It sounds like we've got a jumper here, folks. Somebody call the Coast Guard!
Members Hudman Posted April 16, 2006 Author Members Posted April 16, 2006 Taylor guitars are built to survive a dip in the East River. It's written in fine print on the label.
Members Fireproof Posted April 16, 2006 Members Posted April 16, 2006 What? No water? I just saw Jack Johnson swimming with his Martin in the video of the Curious George** song, Upside Down. It seemed to have really nice tone after that. **sorry - I have a 2-year-old and a 4-year-old.
Members JasmineTea Posted April 16, 2006 Members Posted April 16, 2006 Ovation water skis are the best, IMO. Put your feet in there and away you go!
Members kwakatak Posted April 16, 2006 Members Posted April 16, 2006 Not bash Ovations or anything, but have you ever noticed how the end of their headstocks look a lot like the handle on a canoe paddle? Coincidence? I think not!

Members kwakatak Posted April 16, 2006 Members Posted April 16, 2006 Yeah, well did you ever notice how the bowl is the perfect shape for a bedpan too?
Members JasmineTea Posted April 16, 2006 Members Posted April 16, 2006 Kwak, I just listened to your version of Vincent. Made me cry.

Members kwakatak Posted April 16, 2006 Members Posted April 16, 2006 Originally posted by JasmineTea Kwak, I just listened to your version of Vincent. Made me cry. Naw - it's crapper. Listen to the Muriel Andersen version, there's a video of her playing it at APM issue #3*. Now THAT makes me cry and is my inspiration. (* you need to subscribe to view it but for that video alone it was worth it to me. )
Members JasmineTea Posted April 16, 2006 Members Posted April 16, 2006 Well, I thought it was sweeter than saccharine. See, I have a wild crush on Muriel Andersen. If I ever heard her play (I hav'nt) it would cause some serious personal problems for me...Unexplaneable. So I've been avoiding her.

She just radiates joy in her playing and the expressions that flit across her face show that she's completely in the moment. I don't get all hot and bothered watching her; it's more like I envy her ability and I just wish I could be that way with my playing. Instead I often grind my teeth and feel as if I'm fighting my guitar for any number of reasons like dead strings, narrow string spacing, not being able to get the right wrist position, yada yada yada. OTOH, if you want to talk about women who push my fun button, well there's Sarah McLachlan, Sarah Brightman and a few others I can't remember right now because the hormones have kicked in and my higher brain functions have clicked off...!

He sings good too. You should listen to his version of Wild World by Cat Stevens. Kwak fact: He was Esteban's apprentice back in the late 1970's.

I dig Jack Johnson. He lays down some of the smoothest grooves I ever heard on acoustic guitar. I have a 5 year old son. We went to see Curious George. He loved it. I thought it was awesome that Jack did the entire soundtrack. Good stuff.

Members Hudman Posted April 17, 2006 Author Members Posted April 17, 2006 Originally posted by mrlucky7 Could it be !!!! Could it be Kwakatak behind that mask ?!?! Masked man, reveal yourself..... I only know 2 guys that can make laminate guitars sound great: Esteban and Kwakatak.
Members kwakatak Posted April 17, 2006 Members Posted April 17, 2006 Funny, but I could swear that my guitars sounds like crap?
Members Hudman Posted April 17, 2006 Author Members Posted April 17, 2006 Originally posted by kwakatak Funny, but I could swear that my guitars sounds like crap? Dude, your version of Vincent made J.T. cry....did you use your Tak to slice onioins prior to recording that track? Onion juice could be the problem.
Members JasmineTea Posted April 17, 2006 Members Posted April 17, 2006 I've heard that if you put a couple stick matches in your mouth while cutting onions it keeps your eyes from watering. Maybe I should try it with Kwaks version of Vincent.
Members kwakatak Posted April 17, 2006 Members Posted April 17, 2006 LOL - it's OK JT, you can cry if you want to but don't come to me for comforting! Jeeze, if only it worked on my wife like this. She's long since been bored of my tricks!

Jeez, I guess I'll never live this one down.Kwak sounds to me like a genuine-plays-for-the-love-of-it kinda player. His techinque is'nt perfect, but I think his attitude/approach...something realy sweet is conveyed through his playing. Can't put my finger on it.
