Members funkywon Posted May 4, 2006 Members Posted May 4, 2006 hi!ok....just one simple question!what is a sound hole good for!!?i know..it reduces feedback..but is this the only thing?is there no sound improvement at all? my friend says that the sound is much better because there comes no sound out of the sound hole and the preamp gets the "whole" sound.just for info: got a takamine eg530ssc...so no built in mic... thnx guys!
Members Cldplytkmn Posted May 4, 2006 Members Posted May 4, 2006 just for feedback control... they generally hurt your sound instead of help it... your pickup should respond the same regardless of the air being moved, all you're doing is slowing down the top which can't really help you.
Members Kap'n Posted May 4, 2006 Members Posted May 4, 2006 After trying a soundhole cover for about five minutes. My conclusion, and the conclusion of all of my bandmates is that it killed the sound of the guitar amplified with an undersaddle transducer. If it can kill that sound, I can't imagine it sounding good with any amplification method. Obviously it sounds like crap unplugged.
Members Singin' Dave Posted May 4, 2006 Members Posted May 4, 2006 If your playing acoustic with a fairly loud band, however, a sound hole cover is pretty essiential. Particularly if you are doing a lot of singing and need to hear both the vox and the acoustic throgh your monitor (i.e. your holding you guitar in the beam of the monitor----SCREEEEEEE). I agree that you may lose a bit of tone vs. micing the guitar w/ no pup, but if you are using a UST and the like, you're already sacrificing tone quite a bit, and some minor change to the top reverberation is not really going to be audible (if it is, you gots nice ears bro!) That being said, check out Lutehole for some really nice sound hole covers.
Members M-1 Fan Posted May 5, 2006 Members Posted May 5, 2006 Sound hole covers also protect the sound hole from your pick. Check out Lute holes.
