Members jyd59 Posted May 10, 2006 Members Posted May 10, 2006 I have an Ibanez AW 300 and I'd like to make it sound a bit warmer....would switching to a bone saddle from the stock plastic saddle achieve this to any appreciable degree?
Members Freeman Keller Posted May 10, 2006 Members Posted May 10, 2006 "warmth" is a hard term to define. I think bone makes a guitar "brighter", but the best way is to try it. A new saddle is a very simple change to make - the proceedure has been describe on this forum, fret.com, the UMGF, and most recently, in AG magazine (last month). You can buy a ready to go blank from Bob Colosi (recommended) or one from StewMac that will take a little more shaping and work (still just files and sandpaper). This is also a good time to tweak the action and/or correct intonation if those are issues with your Ibanez. My humble suggest is when you get the new one fitted, try loosening the strings and putting the plastic back in, play it, then try the new one. Let your ears decide if it is "warmer"
Members babablowfish Posted May 11, 2006 Members Posted May 11, 2006 I could be wrong, but I think the Ibanez comes with a Tusq saddle. If so, I doubt that switching to bone would make much difference. If I am incorrect, sorry.
