Members ace1979 Posted May 14, 2006 Members Posted May 14, 2006 Late entry here, had a chance to see Colin Hay (frontman of the band Men At Work) at the Birchmere in Alexandria, VA a few weeks back. Great show! Very seasoned performer. Just him solo with a few guitars. Still has a great voice. Guitar sound for the most part was very nice. He played what seemed to be a custom Gibson Jumbo of some sort (maybe a hand made, but I couldn't tell from my seat, looked sort of "gibsony") with a huge clear sound, also a 12 fret Santa Cruz model i believe, and then suprisingly for quite a few numbers a 12 string, looked like maybe a takamine, but couldn't quite tell...what I thought was hilarious what that his guitar tech was constantly retuning that thing, as he was playing in all sorts of altered tunings with it (what a job)...all in all a fun evening with some great performing, and pretty darn good guitar sounds...any other comments on his gear that people know for sure??
Members FingerBone Bill Posted May 14, 2006 Members Posted May 14, 2006 Colin's great isn't he? His solo stuff is a total departure from the old Men at Work material - he's a really good solo acoustic act. Last time I saw him he was also making some very good use of a sample/loop pedal. Does he still have his wife come on stage with him? (He could do without her input IMHO. The lady's just a little wierd!)
