Members riffmeister Posted May 3, 2006 Members Posted May 3, 2006 Baggs Element (active under saddle pup) vs. Sunrise (magnetic pup) through a Sansamp Preamp: No contest, IMO. The Baggs wins!!
Members sdelsolray Posted May 3, 2006 Members Posted May 3, 2006 Of course it's not a contest. You like the UST. Someone else will prefer the Sunrise.
Members riffmeister Posted May 3, 2006 Author Members Posted May 3, 2006 You're right. It was more of a shootout than a contest.
Members riffmeister Posted May 3, 2006 Author Members Posted May 3, 2006 Still haven't tried an AST. I've heard that they need to be positioned "just so" to get good results. True?
Members Cldplytkmn Posted May 3, 2006 Members Posted May 3, 2006 very true of the ibeam, aparently not so true of K&K's offerings... no clue about b-band

Members riffmeister Posted May 3, 2006 Author Members Posted May 3, 2006 another couple of things I did not care for with the soundhole pickup. when put in place it acts as another "brace" on the top and guess what? acoustically, the guitar did not sound as good with it in there. also, compared to the UST, it detracts aesthetically from the guitar. the Sunrise is actually quite a beefy (heavy) pickup and I didn't care for the added weight. and finally, it left some small marks on the top.
Members guitapick Posted May 16, 2006 Members Posted May 16, 2006 I just had the B-Band A1 package (single-input endpin preamp and UST) put on my classical. My luthier suggested it and I like the sound a lot. Really have to have your duckies in a row, as far as technique. Mistakes stand out more. But that's good. Keeps me on my toes. As nice as it is on it's own, I really like the sound with the mic added to the mix, and want to thank all of you people who helped me in my decision to go with a pickup/mic setup. It's not exactly the same as the unamplified acoustic tone...but I like it a lot, anyway, and it's a blast to play around with the differences. Like a new instrument. Most important: my guitar sounds exactly the same, without the amp, as it did before the installation. Thanks.
Members egtact Posted May 17, 2006 Members Posted May 17, 2006 It's pretty much a matter of personal choice in this department. I love the Bband/mic combo when recording and the folks at Bband have been nothing but super with any problems, even when I've purchased used guitars with Bband in them. Live, the Bband (to me) tends to not be as "quacky" as other piezos, but a pal of mine likes that sound. Takes ALL kinds, right?

Members guitapick Posted May 17, 2006 Members Posted May 17, 2006 I noticed a bit of that "quack" sound at first...not much, but it was there. I got rid of it by rolling off a lot of the mid and some of the treble and keeping an eye on the left hand technique. Hammer ons and pull offs are the prime suspects. Gotta do 'em clean. Even with that, though; the tone cuts really makes the most difference. Very happy camper with it.
