Amplification on a budget

Hello all,

Some friends of mine recently flattered me by asking that I play at their wedding rehearsal dinner. It's an outdodor afair with probably about 50 people slated to arrive including some kids.....

I have a pretty loud acoustic, but it's not that loud......it's not "jacked up" and I really don't want to add electronics.

So here is my dilemna. I would like to mike the guitar and play through an amp or PA. The added dilemna is that I don't own a mike and the amp I have is really not suited to accoustic work (Roland Cube 30).

So....I'll probably try and rent something.

Do any of you have any advice on amps/PA"s or mikes that might fit the bill. (I "might" be able to finance a mike purchase if my wife lets me, there is no way I can drop 2-300 on an amp though).

Can any of you suggest technical specifications for a mikes that might work?

Cheers,

Matt

Call your local rental place. Or call a few of them. I have to rent a Fender Passport a few times a year becasue they can run on a battery and I'm playing on a beach or something.... Anyway, it's $50 and they always give mecables, stands, and ask if I need a mic. See if they'll throw in a SM58 ( they'll probably try to give you a 57, but a 58 is better for accoustic guitar) :)
