Members knockwood Posted May 22, 2006 Members Posted May 22, 2006 Check out the shipping charge on this puppy. The Q and A is pretty amusing, too. At work I am in daily contact with Chinese factories and the Q&A on this auction is comically similar to those communications... http://cgi.ebay.com/NEW-Excellent-Gibson-Electric-Guitar-Stunning-NR_W0QQitemZ7416418380QQcategoryZ2384QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem Edit: Can't get the link to work. If interested, try a search under "New Excellent Gibson" in Musical Instruments... Can't miss it.
Members kwakatak Posted May 22, 2006 Members Posted May 22, 2006 Ahhh, brings back memories of my Navy days when we'd pull in to some port and all the shucksters would wait for us at the pier, trying to sell us all sorts of trinkets of questionable quality. Okey dokey no bull{censored} Joe! A-numba-one!

Members knockwood Posted May 22, 2006 Author Members Posted May 22, 2006 I'm trying to figure their fairly high rating on eBay in contrast with the fact that if you check their other items for sale, they seem to be selling about 50 exact replicas of this git... down to individual scratches on the pickguard... Shill buys? WTF?
Members twotubman Posted May 22, 2006 Members Posted May 22, 2006 And some doorknob will buy one, and then start a "Gibson Sux!!!" thread on HC.
Members Queequeg Posted May 22, 2006 Members Posted May 22, 2006 ebay should yank it as spam since its not really a Gibson. In direct violation of their own policy. Just more pirated Chinese s***
Members thatsbunk Posted May 22, 2006 Members Posted May 22, 2006 I checked "New Excellent Gibson" in ebay all catagories & got 73 matches... what excellent luck i will have
Members twotubman Posted May 22, 2006 Members Posted May 22, 2006 Here's another that has the smell of a scam about it. http://cgi.ebay.com/1957-GIBSON-LES-PAUL-JR_W0QQitemZ7415404576 The account has been dormant for three years, the item description appears to have been C&P'd, and the "Seller's Instructions" weren't written by someone whose first language was English. And, check out the seller's "location". I may be wrong, but I'd be willing to bet someone's gonna get burned.
Members Cldplytkmn Posted May 23, 2006 Members Posted May 23, 2006 Q: is this guitar made in america? is it a real gibson? A: Yes, it is a real one. But made in China. um, what?
Members kwakatak Posted May 23, 2006 Members Posted May 23, 2006 LOL! My cousin in Nevada also deals with overseas vendors and he absolutely refuses to deal with the "ChiComs". He says they flat-out lie to get your business, then they treat you like a red-headed stepchild once they've "got you". nooo.... ya think?!?

The same group sells China made "Fender Strats" too. I read about them on the Fender forum 6 months ago. Ebay is terrible about keeping people honest. They won't do anything if you report them. I have experience with this type of problem. I reported a guy that resells the Best Buy "Gibson Baldwin Music Education Signature Series Signature SG 6-String Electric Guitars" as Gibson SG's. His auction gives the false impression that people are bidding on an actual Gibson SG. They are in the Gibson SG category. He buys them for $169.00 at Best Buy and gets up to $600. He averages somewhere around $400 per guitar. He does it in auction format where the bidder's identity is blocked. He started doing it like that because people were emailing the bidders to tell them the were being scammed. Ebay told me that he wasn't doing anything wrong. Here's the Best Buy link: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=7276707&type=product&id=1118839078699

Believe it or not, I really think I saw this same testimonial in the Wall Street Journal in an article about Chinese made lace and about how hand made lace is a rare and dying craft these days due to its replacement by less costly machine-made lace. The testimonial is even a rip-off.
