Members guit30 Posted May 23, 2006 Members Posted May 23, 2006 After about 20 hours of playing time, the coating on my Polywebs started coming off, anyone else experience that. Elixir is going to send me a new set and an envelope to send them back the defective set. They looked fuzzy, a closer look revealed the coating coming off the most heavily fingered or strummed parts of the stringsJim
Members kwakatak Posted May 23, 2006 Members Posted May 23, 2006 Unfortunately that's normal. I call it "string dander". You learn to live with it. *shrugs*
Members RainsongDR1000 Posted May 24, 2006 Members Posted May 24, 2006 What Kwakatak said. It's unattractive but doesn't seem to affect the sound. I've switched to nano's and it's not as noticeable.
Members Pvine Posted May 24, 2006 Members Posted May 24, 2006 Man, if I can get Elixir to send me a new set every time that happens, I'll never have to buy strings again!! Doesn't seem to affect the sound, though...
Members knockwood Posted May 24, 2006 Members Posted May 24, 2006 Switch to uncoated p/b's, Jim. You'll never be troubled with string dander again.

They have their place and time, but I'd much rather play around without the wrapper!

The PB Nanos don't seem to "shed" as badly but I still prefer non-coated PBs as a matter of personal preference: Martin SP Fingerstyle PB or John Pearse PB. I'm also surprised that they sent you a new set of strings. It's actually common knowledge - and a frequent gripe - about Elixir Polywebs. I used to use them too and just made sure not to wear black!
Members JasmineTea Posted May 24, 2006 Members Posted May 24, 2006 Elixirs SUCK. This messege brought to you by the E.S.C.
