Members Sweb Posted May 31, 2006 Members Posted May 31, 2006 My version of the song. Yea, Elton John is who he is but, I admit it, I've always liked his music. http://media.putfile.com/Yellow-Brick-Road-53

Members Sweb Posted May 31, 2006 Author Members Posted May 31, 2006 Whoa. Sorry about the post. Something is screwy with my system ever since I had to restore it back a couple days. The last 2 days it would only give me postings no later than 5/29. If I posted during that time I wouldn't see them. The song on this thread I'd swear I posted to the MP3 sticky - I'd swear I did. I don't know. This computer stuff is just way beyond my paygrade.

I'm trying to get this recording thing down but I'm not sure what's happening on the monitoring side of it. It sounded balanced to me when I recorded it. Don't know if it's the Behringer or my less than adequate way of monitoring. Using standard speakers and then headphone I tweaked out the mix volume to where I thought I should be - ballpark anyway. back to the drawing board. Geez...I just listened to the link. That is not the way it sounds on my system playback. Wonder what gives with the loss of quality? Is it possible to lose something in the upload. Or, maybe I should repost it to DO3nut's "Why do you suck" thread.
Members kwakatak Posted May 31, 2006 Members Posted May 31, 2006 It's probably the conversion to MP3, at least that's been my experience lately. WAV files are much better in quality but with putfile.com you're limited to 25MB which is only about 3 minutes or so. Other than that, great job on the playing and vocals. I'm glad somebody posted a vox track here; it's helping me build up my nerve.

I think you are being too hard on yourself. Your playing is excellent and I think only that the vocal track was a little too hot. Nothing else is wrong with it. Standard home stereo speakers are "tuned" and will give you an unrealistic audio image. Studio monitors and studio headphones are "tuned" to be very flat so as to not color the signal and when you listen back to it you can shape the sound to your taste with a more realistic impression of your true mix. I don't know if this is your problem or not, but I think it is easily correctable. Just because I call my self "Recordingtrack1" doesn't mean I think I am a recording expert, I am just the opposite actually, it was a name I thought up out of desperation when I first registered with HC because I couldn't get it to take any of the names I was trying to type in. I finally typed in recordingtrack1 and it took it. I was so relieved that I just clicked "OK". I never thought about the implications of such a name. That would be like calling yourself "GuitarGenius" or "MasterPlayer" or something like that! I am really more like "Recording1track" because that is what I usually do. Anyway, enough rambling, RT1:D

Members Pablo Posted May 31, 2006 Members Posted May 31, 2006 Sweb, any technical foibles notwithstanding, your piece is excellent, IMO. Excellent playing and you have a very distinctive voice (I can't sing for s@#*). Keep up the good work!
Members Dan B Posted May 31, 2006 Members Posted May 31, 2006 Kudus from me as well!! I'm more of a singer than a player and I was impressed by your vocals. It took me a little while to get used to your rendition which used harmony to get around the super-ultra-high pitches that Elton sang but, nonetheless, great job. The playing sounded awesome to me too. I'd give my left nut to be able to play like that.
Members Sweb Posted May 31, 2006 Author Members Posted May 31, 2006 For those who I won't need to secure liability insurance, thanks for the listen and compliments. Never considered myself a singer - that's why I ran the vocal harmony where I had to. Trade-off between that and physical impairment. I really wish the up-load took the way I mixed it. Very frustrating. Thanks again. Kwak - You don't need guts to sing. They're used for something completely different and the lyrics never sound quite right coming out that end anyway - too much vibrato created between the cheeks maybe.
