I found a nice dobro locally, but I have no idea what it is. It's in a pawn shop and the owner has no idea either. He does want over $700 for it though!:freak: It has some age to it, but the main thing that sticks out is the inlays on the fretboard. Theyre jumping dolphins. Any ideas?

Some other things should stick out too. Is it a Dobro or some other kind of resonator? If it is a Dobro it should have a serial number stamped on the top of the headstock.

Wood bodied or brass? Biscuit or spider? Roundneck or square? Approximate age? I've got a ton of Dobro reference materials (I own two) and I'll look thru it tonight if you are sure that is the manufacture. You might also ask the same question here

It's a brass resonater, roundneck biscuit. Heavy as hell, so it's brass. It has no serial # or manufactuering id. Unless it's on the inside. I'm stumped because it's low action. It's not cheaply made at all. The neck and headstock has black laquer also. I think the board is ebony, with white neck binding. Very sharp looking. It's like it was setup for me cause I like the action low for picking.

The dolphin thing rings a bell - I'll look tonight. How about engraving on the body? Painted or Chrome? Slot or solid head?

Why does the shop think it is worth $700? In my opinion there are two grades of resonators - the asian imports, worth considerably less than that, and a true Dobro or National (in which case there would be a logo on the headstock) which start there and go up. Of course there are some customs and limited production reso's (but again I would expect the builder would be proud enough to put her name on it), and StewMac even had a kit (and I suppose someone could have added the inlay).

Last, and not least, if you are in the market for a metal body Dobro set up fairly low for both fretted and slide, mine is for sale.

Metal body.It has engraving all over it. Front, back&sides. I have no idea how they got that price. It has no markings or numbers at all. I even looked inside as best I could. I didnt want to come off like a dickhead on the price they were asking. Really nice people. It looks to be a very nice quality piece. This has got me stumped.
