Members JasmineTea Posted June 1, 2006 Members Posted June 1, 2006 Aintcha? So, let's disguss fanaticism. I don't think I need to give any examples in order to get the ball rolling so, carry on.
Members knockwood Posted June 1, 2006 Members Posted June 1, 2006 There is no fanaticism. There is only the Guitar.
Members carguy Posted June 1, 2006 Members Posted June 1, 2006 You may be a guitar fanatic if: You'd rather sit in jail than sell your guitar to post bail. Your wife says it's either me or the guitars, and you choose the guitars. You eat peanut butter and jelly sandwiches because you are saving up for a guitar. You rob convenience stores to pay for the guitar you ordered last week. Etc.
Members Sweb Posted June 1, 2006 Members Posted June 1, 2006 1. Driving home at lunch to get 5 minutes play time before having to go back. 2. Skipping meals to work out a riff - guitarexia. 3. Playing real late and then waking way before necessary to go to work to play - guitsomnia. 4. Doing inside chores with a guitar hanging from your neck. I don't do any of that stuff.
Members JasmineTea Posted June 1, 2006 Author Members Posted June 1, 2006 Tell you what I'm fanatical about: Ultra super low action with minimal string buzz. I should get a set of feeler guages so I can post the actual numbers. All I know is I get my flattops right down there by having a luthier set it up to my anal-retentive-low-action-specs (which are kept in a secret file in his computer - I don't even know what they are), and keep an eye on it through out the year. When the seasons change, the action changes with it. So I may have to do tiny tweeks to the truss now and then to keep it within range. I go by feel.

Only, having moved recently from another state I lost my luthier and now have to get hooked back up again. My OMV-09 is just starting to buzz on the D string but I'm thinking saddle radius because it's always the first string to start the seasonal buzz. I just had the frets checked before I moved. Starting to get to know this guitar.
Members smokiee Posted June 1, 2006 Members Posted June 1, 2006 fanatic? more like freaks that is yeah.. guitar freaks have a nice ring to it. there's no cure, the only relief is new guitars and an understanding wife....

Members JasmineTea Posted June 1, 2006 Author Members Posted June 1, 2006 Braunschwieger. Sure sign of fanaticism.
Members Freeman Keller Posted June 1, 2006 Members Posted June 1, 2006 I've mastered playing the guitar and have taken up the concertina. I'll be hanging out on the Concertina forum now.
Members JasmineTea Posted June 1, 2006 Author Members Posted June 1, 2006 I'd have thought this thread would be up to three pages by now. You guys a bunch of hacks? ..or what? There must be a thousand different guitar related things to be fanatical about. Lets see, tuners, nuts and saddles, strings, b/s wood, top bracing, body styles, picks. Then there's music...
Members dadgad7 Posted June 1, 2006 Members Posted June 1, 2006 I'm absolutely fanatical about my action being low as possible also, maybe a little help here, I've always done it myself, and therefore always screwed things up, I live in north central Connecticut, Can any of you fanatics recommend a really good luthier to help me out? I'm also a fanatic about my equipment being clean, and I mean CLEAN! my buds are amazed, and most of their gutars I consider unplayable because of dirt buildup, AND THEY DON'T EVEN NOTICE IT!! TALK ABOUT FREAKS

Sorry: I got spring fever and was out working in the yard. Besides, my guitars aren't getting a lot of play lately. The Larrivee is at a local store getting a setup and the Tak has no strings on it and is in its case down in the basement. I have my Strat right here next to me but I don't feel like messing with all those cables. Besides, I need to change the strings on it too and I have the hardest time with that tremelo bridge. meh - I must just be in a slump too. *decides to crack a beer and take a nap*

Members Michael Martin Posted June 1, 2006 Members Posted June 1, 2006 I actually played my guitar sitting on the john the other day--great acoustics in that room, now that I put real tile on the floor! Legs still go numb, though. But me, a fanatic? More like obsessive-compulsive/addictive.

Members 0rbitz9 Posted June 2, 2006 Members Posted June 2, 2006 I'm totally sick.I don't have anymore room in my place for more guitars and amps, but I keep getting more anyway.
Members Tony Burns Posted June 2, 2006 Members Posted June 2, 2006 we are not fanatics, but we do have a secret club ( oopps ) and a hand shake - plus you must own a Martin to be our grand poohbah - if you own a gibson or fender , we put you threw therapy before we let you join. Larrivees and Taylor owners pay double dues- but we are a great group of guys/gals and we can accept almost anything- but - Banjo players !
Members kwakatak Posted June 2, 2006 Members Posted June 2, 2006 Aw, man! I'm going through withdrawal! I'm Larrivee-less until tomorrow while it gets a setup and my Tak is sealed in its sarcophagus with no strings. Instead of reaching for the Kay I picked up my Strat and hooked it directly into my Behringer mixer so that I could use the headphones. It's just not the same.
