Members bargains4you Posted June 3, 2006 Members Posted June 3, 2006 I'd like to get those opinions of individuals more learned then me.. Just got the AD-80 from my distributor and am wondering if i can use medium strings.. The guitar came and Light's and it says do not use higher the .12 on the first string... The bracing is scalloped .. will this make my bridge buldge if i did use medium? The sound is a MARTIN Made over.
Members JasmineTea Posted June 3, 2006 Members Posted June 3, 2006 It should sound fine with 12-54. What's an AD-80?
Members recordingtrack1 Posted June 4, 2006 Members Posted June 4, 2006 If it says do not use higher than a .12 then I wouldn't do it. Mediums run .013 through .056. Their will definitely be increased tension and if the guitar is not designed or set up to handle it the end result can only be less than desirable. Also if the guitar is was set up from the factory to use lights then the nut would need to be retooled to carry the increased string size of the mediums at the right height. Once you open the gap, then if you decide to go back, you'd probably have to replace the nut. Are you playing live or are you playing bluegrass? What makes you want to use the larger strings?
